Week 16

I texted Ryan on Sunday and asked him which week we were on because I had lost track with the heart surgery.  His reply......16.......Gulp!  That feels not very far away and I still have sooooo far to go!

Monday night, I hit the pool and did the speed workout.  Previously, I purchased a new rash guard and board shorts so I thought I'd swim in those.  After doing the 250 warm-up I said, "Forget this!" and took them off.  After that, I felt like I was speeding through the water!  The workout was hard and took me almost a full hour to complete, but it felt good to be in the pool again.

Tuesday morning I jumped up to attempt the 60 minute run.  I have a 2.25 mile route that is in 'safer' neighborhoods I like to run.  After doing two laps, I thought.....what the heck?  I'll just go for three laps.  My heart did fantastic!  No issues whatsoever and I didn't feel tired much at all.  However, my hips, hip-flexer muscles, and groin were in major pain by the 6-mile mark.  But I had to finish.  I stopped and walked a few steps but it hurt just as much to walk as it did to run so I just ran the rest. Did 6.75 miles in about 70 minutes.  I'm scared for the 10-mile race coming up!

Wednesday morning I did  a brick workout.  Biked on the trainer for 30 minutes, then went out and ran on the road for 30 minutes.  It felt good and more like a recovery from my hard run the day before.  I loved running after biking!  That seems funny because previously that transition has been the hardest.  But my muscles feel warm and ready to go after biking.

Thursday, I attempted the next brick workout.  I hit spin class where we worked for 60 minutes (she took us to a 10 four, yes, four, times!), skipped the cool down and ran to the pool where I did the 30 minute swim.  It felt great to swim after the bike.

Friday morning I convinced my sister to try out spin class with me.  It was fun to share that with her.  She was dying in the end, but said she liked it.  The Friday instructor isn't nearly as hard as the Thursday, however, I feel like she is much more knowledgeable.  She had us doing threshold intervals on hills and flat roads and it felt like a great workout.

That's all I was able to accomplish this week.  Missed the 2-hour bike on Saturday (Travis was working and I took the kids to see their grandparents) and the long swim.  But I felt good about my efforts barely a week after my heart procedure.  Hopefully the next week will get better.
